Working across a wide range of industries, Mr. Friedman assists start up enterprises, growing companies, professional practices and closely held businesses, providing a hands-on approach to tax planning strategies for individuals and companies. His comprehensive tax, wealth and estate planning experience for entrepreneurs and high net worth individuals encompasses the use of sophisticated tax-oriented compensation planning techniques, succession planning and philanthropic giving programs.
Mr. Friedman is also the lead tax partner involved with the majority of the firm's Family Office clientele. In this capacity, he generally works closely with Family Office and private equity fund management, and their team of co- advisors which typically include investment advisors and legal counsel. He has extensive experience working with qualified small business stock (QSBS) investments and has recently began addressing the utilization of qualified opportunity zone (QOZ) funds for clients.
Jay’s business acumen and practical experience has resulted in various clients requesting his services as a trustee. Mr. Friedman has also provided litigation support to the legal community, assisting with various damage calculations. He has been involved in all stages of engagements from detailed issues to project management. Mr. Friedman has been assisting a large legal team involved in settlement negotiations and mediation with regard to a dispute between partners of a well-known professional-services firm.
Internally, Mr. Friedman is a leader in the Firm's Technology Committee, and has overseen the Firm's transition to a paperless office. His experience in this area has qualified him to consult with other accounting firms and businesses in this area.
Mr. Friedman has spoken at PrimeGlobal tax conferences and has also been quoted several times in the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg/Business Week on tax matters.
Mr. Friedman was recognized for his accomplishments by SmartCEO magazine and selected as a finalist for the 2014 New York SmartCEO CPA & ESQ Awards in the Accountant of the Year category.
EDUCATION
Jay graduated summa cum laude from the State University of New York at Albany with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting. He also has a Masters degree in Taxation from Baruch College.
